I can’t tell you how many amazing women with high-profile jobs have bags that … well, don’t exactly keep up.
In some cases, that’s being very generous to the bags.
They might look like diaper bags (or actually BE diaper bags). Or they might be from Target. Or they might be truly beat up, having survived a daily commute for years.
The first order of business for many, many of my clients is to ask to see their bag and, if the situation warrants it, suggest a new bag that’s more in line with the client’s job.
At least half the time, the client pushes back when I suggest a ballpark budget for the bag purchase (suggested with the client’s job and how forward-facing it is).
But here’s the thing. One of the first things people see about you is your bag. In fact, if you’ve stepped out of a meeting just when others walk in, it might be the FIRST thing other people see. It’s one of the top priorities when it comes to deciding how to spend your clothing budget.
Here are a few bags that are moderately priced but look like business. All are neutral because most of my busy professional clients don’t have the time or patience to change their bags on a daily basis.
(Here are some bags for more casual times this summer.)
A little bit of whimsy with the scalloped edge:
A warm color that goes with everything:
A bag that’s a little more unusual—you won’t see coming and going.
A versatile, classic tote; the little bits of fringe give it office-appropriate edge.
Looking for a vegan option or just on a budget? This is a great option.
